Lyme grass baskets are an ancient tradition of vessel making among the Inuit. Based in a historical practice, contemporary basket making has seen a renaissance with basket makers creating innovative and highly decorative aesthetic designs into which they incorporate a variety of knobs, in this case a soapstone animal, likely a seal.
