John Scott
(1950 - 2022)

John Scott was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1950 and attended the Ontario College of Art, the University of Toronto and Centennial College between 1972 and 1976. His work often tackles apocalyptic themes, tragedy and human flaws. While still an adolescent, Scott left school during grade 10 to begin work in a factory. With this experience, Scott became involved with union activity, and became sensitized to workers’ rights and political issues. Coupled with Toronto street culture and heavy rock music, the artist’s works are steeped in political and proletariat angst. Scott was the recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts in 2000.
