D. Drum Biography
(1944)
David Drum is a listed Canadian artist with 50 years experience. After winning the Canadian National Exhibition mural competition at age 17 he embarked on a 12 year career as a medical illustrator with his early efforts supported by grants from the Canada Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
He spent 10 years in Manhattan creating large format landscapes before returning to Toronto and opening his Cabbagetown Gallery. He exhibited annually with the National Ballet in the O'Keefe Centre for the Performing Arts and provided paintings for many feature films, most recently the television series, "The Firm" and "Builder Boss."
He is represented in the Christoff (CVG) Gallery, Niagra On The Lake; The Riverbrink Art Museum in Queenston and the Dana Tillou Gallery of Fine Art in Buffalo. His work is in the permanent collections of; the Niagara Parks Commission, Pillar and Post, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, St. Michael's College University of Toronto and North York General Hospital, as well as many corpora and private collections.
For the last 12 years he has been painting at his home-gallery-studio that he shares with his artist wife, Barbara Vance, in Crystal Beach. They are currently collaborating on a series of large reverse painted glass abstracts.
