After studying in Spain at the University of Sevilla and University of Barcelona, Prudencio Irazabal moved to New York in 1986 to complete his fine art studies at Columbia University. It would be in the United States that he would create some of his most thoughtful and challenging work over the next two decades.

With colour and light as the main elements in his work, he is a master technician as he applies layer upon layer of pigment creating a delicate jewel like surface with no trace of brushstrokes. The translucent layers hide what appear to be shapes that shimmer and move within the compositions. Leaving the works unframed allows the depth of these layers to be revealed along the edges.

He has an extensive international exhibition history, and his paintings can be found in many private and public collections worldwide including the Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain, the Hermes Foundation in Paris and The Baker Museum in the United States.

Cowley Abbott is excited to offer this collection of works by this artist.
