In a nearly abstract composition, “Eureka Sound” exemplifies Collier's distinct style of simplifying the Canadian landscape to emphasize the grandeur and beauty of its raw form. Capturing the unique nuances of the varied landscapes of Canada's provinces and territories, Collier developed a complex catalogue of works throughout his career. Employing a sparse style of form and strategic layers of banded colour, the artist strips away the busyness of the rugged landscape and presents the viewer with an intimate and simplified interpretation of the land which emphasizes its beauty. The artist travelled to the Arctic and produced numerous works of Eureka Sound and surrounding areas, all with similar cool palettes of ice blues, crisp whites and rich browns.
