(1943)
William Wegman is an American artist who loved his dogs very much, featuring them as his primary subjects. His first muse, “Man Ray,” was a Weimaraner who soon became known through Wegman's photographs and videos to the art world. Over the years, his dogs remained intrinsically linked to his brand. Wegman’s video work has included projects for Saturday Night Live, Nickelodeon and Sesame Street. He has also been commissioned for various projects including fashion campaigns, banners and covers for popular publications such as The New Yorker and Vogue France. Wegman earned his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois in 1967 and taught at the University of Wisconsin from 1968 until 1970 before teaching at the California State College. In the years to follow, his work was increasingly exhibited in museums and galleries internationally.
