John Pemberton is a Canadian realist painter who works in egg tempera, water colour, dry-brush and mixed media but concentrates mainly on egg tempera paintings.

He was born in Toronto and went to local public and high schools where his talent for art was noted from an early age. After high school he attended the Ontario College of Art in Toronto in the Drawing and Painting Department.

For a long time he taught art at Upper Canada College while developing as an artist. He showed his work for years at the Roberts Gallery in Toronto with the guidance and encouragement of Jack Wildridge. His work is in many private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, England, Sweden and China.

For the last ten years John has painted solely on commission. He has a studio in an old Victorian house in Toronto and a summer studio on an island in Lake Joseph in Muskoka.

John took early retirement from teaching in order to paint full time, something he has wanted to do all his life.
