With influences fron Chagall and Enki Bilal, Picasso and Monet, Govro's work is imbued with great sensitivity. The work of this multidisciplinary artist is inviting, even immersive, lively and captivating. His imagination is embodied through fantastic narrative frameworks and flourishes by creating universes in which surrealism, the naive, and even futurism meet. A precursor of the 3D image, Govro explored many mediums, such as drawing, painting, screen printing, sculpture and graphic design. At his death in 2016, his legacy represented a corpus of more than 300 paintings and many other works, including sculptures and digital works. The evolution of his work, through different periods of creation and over nearly four decades, testifies to a growing ability to apprehend the world with acuteness and emotion.
Denis Gauvreau (1950-2016), known as Govro was from the city of Chambly, where a street still bears the name of his father, Viateur Gauvreau. When he was not practicing his art, he devoted his time to cabinetmaking.
