The Coutts Painters of Canada Series of 1931 was a pioneering collection of 46 contemporary Christmas cards (43 hand-pulled silkscreen serigraphs and 3 photomechanical reproductions) published by William E. Coutts (founder of Hallmark Cards Canada) and printed in Toronto by the Sampson-Matthews Company. Organized with key support from Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson, the project was envisioned to provide crucial financial aid and a source of income to Canadian artists struggling during the Great Depression.
