The Prints of Christopher Pratt, Mira Godard Gallery, 2020, illustrated page 31
Newfoundland’s culture, history, geography and its weather had a profound impact on Christopher Pratt’s work. In Fox Marsh Siding, Pratt depicts a steam locomotive of the type once used on Newfoundland’s railway network. The title refers to a railway siding, where trains could be parked off the main track. Based on a photograph, the print also reflects Pratt’s childhood memories of travelling by rail across Newfoundland, before the island’s road network connected many of its communities.
