A note from the owner:

"My father, the Honourable Louis Marcel Joyal, was named to the Federal court of Canada in June of 1984.

For several years, he and my mother searched for just the right painting to add to the final touches for his chambers. They decided to visit Bruno Cote at his studio after leaving their summer cottage in Kamouraska in the fall of 1986. Upon arrival, he was working on a beautiful garden piece called the “St-Féréol” but this piece had already been spoken for.

This painting reminded them of the Reford Gardens-Jardins de Métis, a place also dear to them partially for its beauty, but more so for the close friendships they had with the Reford family.

This is when they commissioned Monsieur Bruno Cote to paint this breathtaking piece of art while incorporating the garden into his work. It was delivered to his chambers in Ottawa in the fall of 1987, where it was enjoyed by not only himself but all the visitors and Judges of the Federal Court. Upon his retirement, it was displayed in our family home for all family and friends to enjoy for many years."
