Larry Fink’s lively images of American nightlife began with his “Social Graces” series in the mid-1970s. Intrigued with taking photos “in the spirit of finding myself in the other, or finding the other in myself,” he captured people at Manhattan’s finest events and nights at the Studio 54 nightclub. Fink observed the enjoyment people took in having their picture taken, saying, “It is a profound aspect of our culture, this compulsion for proof. It allows me to wade into a party.” Fink has waded into yet another party in this work, capturing the subtleties and goings on.
