This expertly carved pipe features a flared and rimmed receptacle above the head of a sea otter with large eyes and eyebrows. The sea otter’s flippers are beautifully rendered and feature an oval abalone inlay above each one. On the back of the sea otter is a transformation of a bear/human figure holding a package, possibly representing food, as otters hold their food in this manner. The sea otter’s tail curves towards the bear/human’s belly.
