Michael Dumas
(1950)

Born in Whitney, Ontario, on the eastern edge of Algonquin Park, Dumas's proximity to the wilderness had an influence on his practice as an artist. Observing first-hand the wildlife and nature of his surrounding area, the artist seeks to portray his subject matter realistically while maintaining balance with soft brushwork to create atmosphere in his oil paintings. As part of his personal dedication to conservation, many of the artist's pieces are part of the Canadian Explorations Program depicting Canadian Endangered Species, the World Wildlife Fund, the Nature Conservatory of Canada, Canadian Parks Partnership, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and the International Council for the Preservation of Birds. The artist's works have been exhibited across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, garnering international attention and awards throughout his career.
