David Choe is an American painter, illustrator, graffiti artist, muralist, and musician from Los Angeles, who started doing graffiti as a teenager on the streets of Los Angeles. After briefly attending the California College of the Arts, he gained notoriety in 2005 when he was asked by Facebook president Sean Parker to paint the walls of Facebook in Silicon Valley with graphic murals. Then in 2007 CEO Mark Zuckerberg commissioned him again to cover the walls of a new office with tamer subject matter. Instead of taking payment in cash he took payment in shares in the new company, which in turn made him a millionaire. He draws on pop culture for his imagery with heavy influences from comic books and graphic novels.

These two playful works on small brown paper bags possess the same raw whimsy that is characteristic of Choe’s larger mural works. He has built a following not only through his art but through his work behind the camera on his podcast and his activities on social media platforms.
