Louis Dobry
(1915)

Born in 1915 in Budapest, Hungary, Dobry found creative escape in drawing and painting from his upbringing in a Hungarian government orphanage. Emigrating to Canada in 1951, after fleeing the Second World War and graduating from the Royal Hungarian Academy of Art in 1941, he focused his practice on landscape painting, capturing the essence of the Canadian rural and urban landscape focusing on Orillia, Ontario. His works were exhibited in Hungary and throughout Canada during his career and his pieces can be found in private collections from Quebec and Ontario, through to British Columbia.
