Henry Almeida purportedly studied art informally with his father in Caracas, Venezuela and continued studies at the Academia de San Carlos, Mexico. He emigrated to England in 1930 and (purportedly) attended the Willesden College of Technology and the St. Martin’s School of Art in London. In 1957, Almeida emigrated to Canada where he taught at the Ontario College of Art and the Central Technical School, and also worked as an art restorer. In the early 1960s, he became a member of the Canadian Society of Graphic Art and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour. Almeida’s work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario, Art Gallery of Hamilton, and Museum London, among others.

It is most likely that Jean-Louis met Almeida through Douglas Duncan’s Picture Loan Society gallery in Toronto; Almeida exhibited with Duncan, and Duncan acquired a Jean-Louis drawing, which was donated by his Estate to Museum London.

The Almeida frame is original (the mat was replaced a few years ago) with an Issacs Gallery label on the verso, although likely an indicator that it was framed at the gallery.
