The 1990 press release related to the Art Dialogue Gallery exhibition of John McLean’s new works in oil, described the paintings in the series (where “Sky Blue” debuted) with:

“The landscape is re-designed to fit the content of contemporary aesthetics. Like a multi-image projection, the new paintings by John Dunbar McLean are a window with several views. The windows and the views are a clever composition of forms, lines, colours recalling large vistas of land, sky, lakes, woods and other natural sights. Sometimes the composition incorporates details in a superimposed or transposed effect but without ever being realistic. The final result is an abstract cloisonné relating the sensations of nature”
