René Marcil
(1917 - 1993)

Rene Marcil had a troubled childhood but found an outlet in creating art. He was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal at age fourteen and eventually worked for Morgan, and later, Eaton's, as a star artist in the advertising department. He spent a successful eleven years in New York before moving to Paris where he joined La Grande Chaumiere with many other ambitious American and European artists, looking to push the boundaries of academic art. He continued to travel between England and France for inspiration for the rest of his life.

Marcil's works are part of the permanent collection of the Louvre, Paris and are also part of the Collections nationales de France.
