A fine example of the artist's work, “Skaters on Canal” captures the elements that Charles Leickert is renowned for: a charming winter scene of everyday leisure, a fascination with capturing the rosy glow of the famous Dutch light of the region, and the atmospheric sky hanging over the picturesque village below. Belgian born, Leickert specialized in Dutch landscape after having studied at The Hague under the supervision of landscape painters Bartholomeus van Hove, Wijnand Nuijen, and Andreas Schelfhout, among many others.
