Michelle Gewurtz, “Molly Lamb Bobak Life & Work”, Art Canada Institute, 2018, reproduced page 40
In the early 1960s, Molly and Bruno Bobak spent time in Florence while traveling throughout Europe. Molly produced a few prints of city scenes from this time spent abroad, reflecting her mounting interest in densely populated urban scenes, as well as patterning and design.
In “Molly Lamb Bobak: Life and Work”, Michelle Gewurtz compares “View from the Bridge” with the lithograph, “Florence,” a bird’s-eye representation of the Italian city, surmising that both works were possibly composed after Molly’s visit to Europe. Gewurtz discusses “View from the Bridge” stating, “This urban scene, representing a wintry street, is not specific to any city or country. Although Lamb Bobak’s rendering of buildings and trees indicates some concern for pattern, the treatment appears more gestural and atmospheric, resembling her drawings or watercolours.”
