Within the layered landscape, the central activity of the horse-drawn sleighs gliding through the fresh snow highlights the more complex fore, mid, and backgrounds the artist has incorporated in the composition. The eye follows their path through the scenery of snow-ladened pine trees and colourful buildings quintessential to the rural Marshalltown locale where the artist lived and sourced her inspiration, and bears witness to the artist’s love of the hustle and bustle of the town.
