According to MacDonald historian, Charles Beale, these pencil sketches were created by MacDonald “during one of his trips to Europe during World War One as a war artist; ‘Woman Sweeping’ was likely sketched in France or Italy. The majority of the artist’s sketchbooks, researched by me for my 2010 book, ’Interpreter of Old Ontario’, are housed at the Glamore National Historic Site, Belleville, Ontario.” We extend our thanks to Charles Beale for providing this information.
