According to MacDonald historian, Charles Beale, “’Autumn Roadway’ could easily be renamed ‘Autumn in Napanee’. This fall scene is of Centre Street in Napanee looking from River Road up to the Centre Street Bridge, the Napanee River and into the commercial centre. In the mid-ground along the river is the former historic Vine’s Coal Yards which was also home to a poultry grading station for many years. The painting is within its original frame.”
