Maud Lewis’ cheerful harbour landscapes were a regular depiction within the collection of serial images which the artist created. The scenes are a reminder of happy memories, including a picnic outing with her brother Charles, his wife and several friends during her later twenties. Being a “little treasure of a place”, Nova Scotia is full of towns and villages of fishermen and farmers, a perfect opportunity for Maud Lewis to paint the people and pastimes of her home.
