The owner of this artwork and their family visited Maud and Everett Lewis at their home during the 1960s and purchased this artwork. The owner recalls the paint still being wet (and Lewis apologizing for it). The artist, while pointing to details within the composition, accidentally made contact with the wet paint and left a small print in the roof of the covered bridge, the greyish area still visible.
The family kept the car windows open when they left the Lewis home, helping to dry the paint.
The photograph shows the present owner with his brother during their visit, Maud and Everett Lewis standing between the boys in front of the famous Lewis home in Nova Scotia.
