A note on the reverse of the artwork’s framing describes American artist Asa Cheffetz as one of the “great masters” of wood engraving. The artist was born in Buffalo in 1897 and originals of his artworks can be found in such locations as the New York Public Library, Pennsylvania Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Smithsonian Institute and the Library of Congress.
