“Winter Sleighing Scene” shows a single rider gliding through the pure snow, privy to a picturesque and calm landscape. A layered horizon with rolling hills and a bright blue sky poised above the small homes below, the scene gives a glimpse into the small town's daily routine.
According to Alan Deacon, this artwork was likely painted in 1970. The consignor’s family purchased the painting from a drug store in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Deacon believing that stores in the area would sometimes purchase Maud Lewis works of art for resale.
