Literature
Charles Beale, “Manly MacDonald: Interpreter of Old Ontario,” Napanee, 2010, page 6
MacDonald had an eye for old buildings that recalled a bygone era– stone houses, early bridges and outdated farming practices. He documented and preserved several of Ontario’s earliest structures in his work, most which have since been destroyed. MacDonald is said to have “painted every mill within a hundred miles of Belleville.” “Mill at Codrington” presents one of these old Ontario landmarks, which was likely not preserved for very long thereafter.
