A traditional landscape painting with a nod to impressionist experimentation in technique and emphasis on light is in keeping with MacDonald's artistic oeuvre and his affinity for depicting small town landscapes on the peripheral of Toronto. The now deconsecrated church on historic Main Street in Unionville has been incorporated with the Frederick Horsman Varley Art Gallery of Markham.
