Susan Mary Morse was born in 1862 in Saint John, New Brunswick. Known for her studies of flowers, she began her education at the Victoria School of Art in Halifax before leaving for New York to enroll at the Art Students' League. Subsequent to a move to Ottawa, she continued to study under Franklin Brownell. Throughout her career she exhibited with several societies including the Art Associations of both Ottawa and Montreal (1915), the Royal Canadian Academy (1913, 1922) and the Ontario Society of Art (1928). Her work was also included in the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924.
