With more than four decades of combined experience in the Canadian art industry, Rob Cowley and Lydia Abbott are the principals of Cowley Abbott, each serving managerial and specialist roles in the art business over almost fifty years combined. Before starting Cowley Abbott, Rob and Lydia both acted as managers and senior art specialists at rival auction houses, with combined responsibility and direct involvement in the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars in artwork. Rob and Lydia are directly involved with the major artworks and collections which the company offers each auction season. They also communicate directly with potential bidders, discussing and promoting the artwork with clients through both public and private client services and active engagement. We believe that the success of an auction or private sale depends upon the principal figures within a firm playing a strong and active role in the organization and execution of the sale, with involvement in all details of the extended sale process.
